Human Resources Professionals in High Demand At BC Schools
You have probably heard from somewhere that the population of teachers is aging. Did you know that the aging workforce is affecting the staffing of Human Resources professionals in school districts as well?
Currently, Sooke School District No. 62 is looking for Directors of Human Resources. In the last 6 months, the Central Okanagan School District No. 23, Delta School District No. 37, Greater Victoria School District No. 61, Campbell River School District No. 72, Delta School District No. 37 have recruited for either a Director of Human Resources or a Human Resources Assistant.
These opportunities traditionally go unnoticed since most human resources professionals are employed in the private sector.
According to Job Futures Canada, only 26% of human resources specialists are employed in public administration.
The types of candidates that school districts are looking for are those with a strong research, recruitment and labour relations background and experience in the public sector, particularly public education.
In most medium to large school districts, there can be as many or more than three human resources administrators. Each of which are working with different employee groups—teachers, non-union (exempt) staff, and/or management professionals.
