Why Teach At Xet’olacw Community School?

Our mission at xet’olacw Community School (K-12) is to learn from the past and present to create pride in our future. We are a band-operated school with a focus on language and culture and preparing students for further education or employment.

Teachers will learn and appreciate the St’at’yemc culture through opportunities to participate in cultural and spiritual ceremonial events and activities. You’ll find amazing students and strong teacher-student relationships.

School community

Teachers work in a collaborative environment to deliver high-standard, student-centered education. With Lil’wat language and culture at the forefront, teachers educate our students on core academic subjects while immersing themselves in our community and its values.

You’ll find small classes, most of which have an educational assistant. We also have an excellent counselling and behaviour team.

Our community

We are located in a beautiful mountainous environment two hours from Vancouver and a half-hour north of Whistler Mountain. Lil’wat Nation is one of 11 nations within the St’at’yemc territory. This is a progressive community with a political and cultural chief, 10 councillors and 2300 nation members. The school is the heart of the community and located at Xet’olacw, a new site on a hillside across from the majestic Ts’zil mountain.

Within our community you will find a gas station, grocery store and a large community building with a gym, day care and exercise room. The Nation recently built a new adult learning centre/college in the Ts’zil building, which also includes a youth centre and health centre.

Why You’ll Love It Here

We offer many school events and opportunities for cultural experiences you will not find elsewhere, including our out-on-the-land school, gardening, hiking and camping through traditional territory, skiing/snowboarding, fishing and many traditional practices.

Educators benefit from many workshops and skill development opportunities, and they are encouraged to get involved in professional learning communities and coaching.
