School Overview
Valley Christian School (VCS) opened its doors to 35 students in the fall of 1983 to provide education that was consistent with the Christian world and life view of Christian families who felt led by God to open a school that supported the values of the Christian home in every area of the curriculum. The home-church-school connection was foremost in the minds of our founders so that a strong Biblical foundation could be built and there would be less confusion in the minds of the children.
Why Teach At Valley Christian School?
Staff and teachers have ministered to thousands of students who have come through VCS. Students have had a strong foundation of Biblical teaching to carry them throughout their lives. Many have given their lives to Christ within our walls and halls. Many more have experienced missions trips and ministry. Relationships have developed and grown and stretched, not only to the other side of town, but around the world. For this we praise the Lord!
Mission, Vision And Values
Our mission is to work together as a family to educate students on the firm foundation of Christ.
Draw For Employees
As a smaller family-style school, both staff and families get to know each other very well and it feels as though we are working together as one.
Why You’ll Love It Here
Valley Christian School seeks to be a place that is collaborative in nature. We seek to work together as a group in such a way that our students can grow and learn to the best of their abilities. Being a smaller school means that we have a wonderful family atmosphere where families and staff work together to raise children to find their gifts and follow their passions.
Community & School Culture
School community
We opened a new permanent location on March 31, 2014.
Our Kindergarten focuses on developing children’s skills so that they approach school with confidence, excitement and eagerness. Students in grades one to eight build on this foundation to develop their understanding of academics as well as their growth of understanding the call of Christ.
We have a calling as a Christian School to provide a solid academic base for each student so that they will be able to experience success in life. School must always be a fun, safe place for each student but it also must be a place where students learn discipline, maturity and accountability.
While we are primarily a Kindergarten to Grade 8 brick-and-mortar school, we also offer a distributed learning program in which students attend class on campus two days each week. On these days, the students integrate into the classrooms and participate alongside our full-time students. For the remaining three days, distributed learning families work from home and access their classroom teacher’s plans online via Google Classroom.
Our community
Mission has a wonderful small town feel, yet is in close proximity to larger cities such as Abbotsford and Vancouver, which is 70 kilometres to the east. Originally inhabited by the Stó:lō First Nations people, Mission was founded in 1892 and is now home to over 41,000 people. Residents enjoy a wide range of easily accessible outdoor activities, including hiking, biking and camping. The city also boasts a concert hall, music festivals, community centres, full pool and fitness centre, ice rinks, shopping, a quarter-mile raceway, drift track and wonderful parks.
Salary And Benefits
Salaries are based on position and experience. We also offer extended medical and dental benefits, as well as professional development opportunities.
Application Requirements
The teachers, staff and board members are expected to live up to the ethical standards set by Valley Christian School Society’s statement of faith, constitution and bylaws. These expectations are rooted in Christian tradition and the Biblical values that the school community wishes to exemplify in the modelling that teachers, staff and board members provide to students. Teachers must hold a BC Certificate of Qualification or have the ability to get this certification.
