Weyk-t (Wait-k – Hello)! At Sxoxomic Community School, student-centered education is the root of learning. We pride ourselves on creating a unique, learning environment that embraces Secwepemc values as the foundation for students from kindergarten through Grade 9. Students and families are also welcomed into a dynamic and supportive learning community that extends outside of the classroom walls.
School community
The academic program at Sxoxomic Community School places an emphasis on every aspect of student growth and development while meeting requirements of the BC Ministry of Education, the First Nations Education Steering Committee (FNESC) and the First Nations Schools Association of BC (FNSA). With an enrolment of 67 students we provide small class sizes, and our exceptional, qualified teachers allow us to offer a comfortable and inclusive educational environment while ensuring each student receives the individualized attention and support they need.
Our current Esk’etemc education programming includes Cathy’s Daycare (0-3), Sxoxomic Community School (K-9), School District 27 (grades 9-12) and post-secondary funding/classes.

Esk’etemc First Nation
Esk’etemc (Ess-ket-em), the People of the White Earth, are one of 17 Secwepemc (Suh-kwep-m) Nations located within the interior of British Columbia. Esk’etemc Elders pass on traditional knowledge, laws and ways through the Secwepemctsin (Suh-kwep-m-jean) language. Esk’etemc provides holistic and spiritual guidance assisting First Nations and non-First Nations in fasting quests, sweat lodges, an Elders sauna, drumming and gathering plants and medicines. Esk’etemc leadership is renowned for providing guidance and support in recovery programs.
Our community
It is the people who live in Esket that makes it so special. The Esk’etemc education journey is rooted within the wisdom of Esk’etemc ancestors from the last 10,000 years. Learning on the land, from the land, for the land is the heart of Esk’etemc learning passed down through generations. The Esk’etemc community and current Chief and Council are focused on creating and sustaining high-quality education options for all individuals that are grounded within Secwepemc values.
In Esket, you’ll find a health centre, store, gas station, restaurant, band administration building, full-sized gym, workout centre, and, of course, the school. The community is always growing and has recently added a wellness and recovery centre, recycling depot and language centre.
Williams Lake is just 50 kilometres away, a town that boasts many outdoor recreational activities, shopping, good restaurants and volunteer opportunities. Williams Lake is a three-hour drive south of Prince George and a three-hour drive north of Kamloops. Its regional airport connects the town to nearly everywhere in the province.
Situated in the Cariboo region of British Columbia, the area also offers many recreational opportunities.
Salary & Benefits
Salaries depend on education and experience, and they are in line with those offered by local public school districts. Staff enjoy a matched health and wellness benefit package and can participate in a Registered Retirement Saving Plan.
