Regional Overview

Metro Vancouver, located on the southwest corner of mainland British Columbia, includes 12 public school districts and multiple private schools. Home to Vancouver, the third largest city in Canada, the Metro region is also a major transportation and industrial hub.

The largest school district in Metro Vancouver is Surrey, enrolling nearly 82,000 students and employing over 13,000 teachers, administrators and school staff.  In addition to the larger districts of Vancouver, Burnaby, Coquitlam and Richmond, the Metro Vancouver region also includes smaller school districts in Maple Ridge, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, New Westminster, Delta and Squamish.

Metro Vancouver is one of the most multicultural regions in the country. Often referred to as Canada’s gateway to Asia, the city of Vancouver boasts the second largest Chinatown in North America.

Various festivals and events take place throughout the year in and around Vancouver, and highlights include the Dragon Boat Festival, International Jazz Festival, Cherry Blossom Festival and Richmond’s Chinese night market.

Metro Vancouver, the most densely populated regional district in British Columbia, is home to approximately half the province’s population. Just minutes from the bustling city center, you can find skiing, snowboarding or kayaking against the stunning backdrop of Vancouver’s skyline.
