Metro Vancouver
Regional Overview
12 school district employers are located in the Metro region, which occupies the southwest corner of mainland British Columbia. Home to the third largest city in Canada, the Metro region is also an important transportation hub. Vancouver International Airport is the major point of entry for all national and international arrivals, and Tsawwassen and Horseshoe Bay ferry terminals shuttle passengers to Vancouver Island and the surrounding Gulf Islands.
The largest school district in the Metro Vancouver region is Surrey, enrolling nearly 82,000 students and employing over 13,000 teachers, administrators, and school staff. In addition to the larger districts of Vancouver, Burnaby, Coquitlam, and Richmond, the Metro Vancouver region also includes smaller school districts in Maple Ridge, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, New Westminster, Delta, and Squamish.

Culture
The Metro region is one of the most multicultural diverse regions in the country. Often referred to as Canada’s gateway to Asia, the city of Vancouver boasts the second largest Chinatown in North America. Various cultural festivals and events take place throughout the year in and around Vancouver, and highlights include the Dragon Boat Festival, International Jazz Festival, Cherry Blossom Festival, and Richmond’s Chinese night market.
Lifestyle
This is the most densely populated regional district in BC, and about half of the province’s population resides here. It’s easy to find a cosmopolitan connection, but it is just as easy to get back to nature, too. Just minutes from the centre of the city, you can still ski, snowboard, windsurf or even kayak, all against the backdrop of Vancouver’s gorgeous city skyline.
